The computer and communications world has been transformed by the Internet like nothing before. The invention of so many technologies like the telegraph, telephone, radio, and the computer set the stage for this integration of capabilities which has never been done before. The Internet is a world-wide broadcasting mechanism used for spreading information, its also a medium for collaboration and interaction between people and their computers without regard for geographic location. The internet has become such a force in our society, creating endless opportunities for information, entertainment, communication, pleasure, delight and apparently effortless consumption to the point where it has acquired a quasi-addictive power, especially over the younger generations. These days some people still think the “internet” is the same as the “World Wide Web” (WWW),  they are actually two different things entirely. The “internet” early known as the Arpanet is a communication structure which was first discovered on October 29th, 1969 and then few years later the World Wide Web which is a protocol, a particular way of communicating and displaying content was discovered.

Surveillance in plain English is the close observation of a person or group of people, therefore surveillance in relation to the internet or computer network could be defined as the monitoring of computer activities and data stored on a computer hard drive or the monitoring of all of the data that is being transferred over the Internet. There are a lot of internet users and most of them people are unaware of the surveillance society while those aware of it still choose not to care about it. These days there are a lot of Computer and network surveillance programs and almost all Internet traffic can be monitored for illegal activity. An example of this is the United States of America there is a certain Law the mandates that all phone calls and broadband internet traffic(emails, web traffic, instant messaging, etc.) should be made available for monitoring by Federal law enforcement agencies
